

Curtis Cleveland Applegate passed away peacefully at his home on June 3rd, 2014, at 6:51 PM, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on February 5th, 1924 to Frank C. Applegate and Estella May Kennedy. He entered the US Navy at the age of eighteen and valiantly served our country.
He met the love of his life, Opal Lyone Eastman, and was married three weeks later. The two lovebirds settled in Richmond, California and had three children. Curtis worked installing cyclone fencing in California, and upon his retirement, he and Opal moved to Gresham, Oregon in 1982.
Curtis was preceded in death by his son, Edward Applegate and his wife, Opal Applegate. He is survived by his son, Richard Applegate; daughter, Diana Applegate; grandson, Rick Applegate; granddaughters, Michelle Brown (Paul) and Shannon Applegate; great granddaughters, Amanda Applegate, Macayla and Nya Brown; great grandsons, Nathaniel and Gabriel Brown.
Curtis had an uncanny ability to overcome difficult circumstances and persevere throughout his life. He was loved and admired for his strength and wit. He is gone, but will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on through all those whose lives he touched.
