The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 15, at St. Mary Cathedral of the Immaculcate Conception in Portland.
Father Reynolds was born in 1926 in Rainier and attended Mount Angel Seminary High School and College, and then took his seminary training at St. Thomas Seminary in Kenmore, Wash. Archbishop Edward Howard ordained him on May 30, 1953.
Father Reynolds served as associate pastor at St. Charles, St. Thomas More and St. Mary Cathedral, all in Portland.
He was named pastor of St. Peter, Newberg, in 1967, a position he held until he was named pastor of Queen of Peace, Salem, in 1970. Father Reynolds left Queen of Peace in 1978 to become pastor of St. Anne, Grants Pass and then served as pastor at St. Alice, Springfield until 2000, when he became pastor of St. Mark, Eugene. He also was moderator at St. Catherine of Siena in Veneta from 2000 to 2002.
In 2004, he was honored at the annual St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County dinner.
He was the spiritual advisor for the charity for about a decade.
On the 50th anniversary of his priesthood in 2003, he enjoyed a three-week vacation in Ireland, a gift from parishioners at St. Mark.
At the time of his retirement in 2006, he was the archdiocese’s oldest parish priest.
He has lived in Southeast Portland in recent years.
As a priest, Father Reynolds put great emphasis on promoting participation of lay people in the liturgy, even before the word came down from the Holy See in the form of Vatican II to support that effort.
He also served as vocations director for the archdiocese.
He was known as a priest who encouraged young men to study for the priesthood.
“I encouraged them to consider the life,” he said.”
Msgr. Don Buxman, longtime pastor and former vicar for clergy in the archdiocese, told the Sentinel that his priesthood was profoundly effected by Fr. Reynolds.
Arrangements under the direction of Zeller Chapel Of The Roses FH, PORTLAND, OR.
