

My dear husband, Daryl L. Nehler, passed away peacefully the morning of January 31, 2015 of stroke complications and dementia. He was born in Greeley, Nebraska, December 22, 1934, the last of eight children of Herman and Irma Nehler. At age 4, the family moved to Oregon. Daryl attended Estacada Grade School, Knappa High School. Received his Bachelor's Degree at Portland State and a Master's Degree in Mathematics at the University of New Mexico.
Daryl taught mathematics at Estacada High School for three years and 35 years at Madison High School in Portland, Oregon. He also taught
26 years at Portland's night school. In addition he worked for Montavilla Animal Clinic from 1954 to 2012. In 1960 he married Joy Foree. They divorced in 1989.
July 7, 1993 Daryl married (Jay) Joanne Steveley Hosman. They enjoyed their home, children, extended family, Nehler reunions and traveling to many parts of the world. Daryl loved his vegetable garden and sharing the produce. Like his father, he enjoyed raising Dahlias.
From a young age Daryl loved animals with the last two being his Maine Coons, Barney and Sissy.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. Mark Nehler (Sydney) grandson, Owen of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Denise Martin (Steve) granddaughters Jennifer and Jessica of Ore; his family by marriage Tristan Hosman of Portland; Mary Ann and Neal Hughes and grandson, Thomas Kampstra of West Linn; his Hosman family, brother,Stan and sister, Lillian along with many Nehler nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to his memorial service at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home at 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. at 1 PM on Saturday, March 14 with a dessert reception to follow. Remembrances may be made to the Daryl L. Nehler Scholarship Fund which will be yearly presented to a Madison High School senior with Math college related major.
