David Alexander Bruce was born on May 6, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated "salutitorian" from Merchantville High School, where he was "first violinist" and a member of a small dance band playing school parties and functions. From there David moved to Naugatuck CN, working for U.S. Rubber Co., and later for Waterbury Tool Co., manufacturing electric motors for submarines. He also learned the construction trade from his father and various summer jobs.
David served in the military as a weatherman during WWII, attached to the 5th Air Force under General MacArthur in the South Pacific. His experiences during the war led him to a more serious contemplation of his early religious training. Upon returning to the U.S., he became involved with the Bible Students organization and worked at the Dawn Bible Students publishing house in Rutherford,NJ.
It was during this time he met his wife to be, Shirley. They moved to California where David worked many years as a building contractor specializing in fire and casualty insurance construction and assessment. Later he formed his own company performing the same kind of work.
David became an elder in the Los Angeles Bible Students congregation and served in that capacity for many years until relocating to Kirkland ,WA, before moving to Fairview, OR. He and Shirley lived at the beautiful Bible Students Retirement Center, a place David served as its head contractor in building.
David cherished his family as well as those he served in his long Bible Student career. His constant desire was to see that they were loved and cared for. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
