The Lord our Savior took Delbert Paul Kuhlman to his eternal home on February 28, 2017. He was born on April 22, 1938 at Sacred Heart hospital in Eugene, Oregon to Alfred and Emilie Kuhlman. Del is survived by his wife Georgianna, daughter Sheryl (Michael), grandsons Cole and Alex, sister Doreen (Richard).
Del is preceded in death by his son Michael and brother Larry (Carolyn).
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for most of his life, and was confirmed on May 13th, 1951. He was active in several organizations through the church then joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Oregon City on February 16th, 1992.
Del's work ethic started on the farm as a child. He later joined the Army in January of 1957 and served in the Army corps of Engineers in Europe until honorable discharge in August of 1959.
He worked in the Technical Medical field for most of the rest of his career and retired from Abbott Laboratories in 2003.
The Army inspired Del with a love of operating and tinkering with machines of all types. Planes, automobiles, boats, motorcycles and RC vehicles. He collected a wide selection of tools to keep his toys operating as designed, and modified to his own liking.
He loved fishing, lakes, rivers or ocean. He caught a fish large enough to be included in the brochure for Garibaldi Charters on Fisherman's Wharf in Tillamook Bay. He took many trips with his friends to Alaska in search of halibut and other deep ocean fish.
He also loved to travel in their motor home locally and across the nation to visit places he had not seen before. He also loved telling stories about his early life and about his father, of whom he lost at an early age.
Services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on March 14th at 1:00 pm. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Oregon City, OR. Followed by refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warriors Project.
Arrangements under the direction of Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes, Portland, OR.
