Throughout his illness, he maintained his characteristic determination and resilience. He dedicated his life to providing personal financial planning services to clients across the country and around the world, helping others align their time, energy, and resources with what is most meaningful and important to them.
He prided himself on his close relationships with his clients. Dirk served in many leadership roles within the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and in the Oregon Society of CPAs. He lectured and wrote extensively and received numerous awards and accolades for his expertise.
A native Oregonian, Dirk was active in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Portland, Oregon, and enjoyed traveling, running marathons, skiing, riding his motorcycle, boating, and other activities where he could be on the move. Dirk found love and companionship in Dena Williams, whom he wed after his unexpected glioblastoma diagnosis in January 2023. Thanks to her selfless dedication, they had a year of making memories, including extensive travel to see friends and family.
Dirk is survived by his wife Dena; Dena's daughters, Jennifer (Brad) and Laura (Makoto), and her 5 grandsons; his sons, Derek (Katy) and Travis (Sara); granddaughter, Briar, and grandsons, Theo and Ellis; his sister, Jennifer Adams-Haglund (Larry); extended family; and his business partner, Sarah Bradley, who will continue to honor his legacy by leading Edwards Bradley PC.
He is predeceased by his parents, Laverne Edwards and Beverly Edwards, and his first wife Merilyn (Hembree) Edwards.
A celebration of Dirk’s life is being planned. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Glioblastoma Foundation or the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Portland Oregon in Dirk’s memory.
