Donald "Don" Clark Carver was born in Portland, Oregon, on May 23, 1943 to Helen and Everett Carver. His brother, Wayne Carver, was born three years before him. Don could be described as fiercely intelligent, exceedingly kind, and genuinely humble. His intelligence was displayed through his vast collection of books. He loved collecting literature on the Civil War, philosophy, poetry, and other histories of the world. It is no surprise that he chose to graduate with a degree in history from Willamette University.
He enjoyed tending his garden and growing bundles of rose bushes. Don deeply loved all creatures of the earth, especially cats. Due to his generous heart, he religiously gave every year to several organizations. For employment, Don gave 46 years of his life to the Portland State University Library as a bibliographic researcher. His coworkers would fondly call him "Colonel Don."
Don never married or had children but had a loving family and many friends. Those lucky enough to know him will recall his incredible sense of humor, dynamic smile, and warm, chuckling laugh. Don requested not to have a funeral, but donations should be made in his honor to the Oregon Humane Society.
