Don moved to San Diego, California at 18 and enlisted in the Navy. He served honorably in both the Navy and Marines, receiving his discharge in 1947. He married Dorothy Verle McCarty in Yuma, Arizona on May 3, 1947. They moved to Oregon and he worked on many of the hydroelectric dam projects as a crane operator, the family being uprooted many times as one project was completed and the next begun. In 1959, he founded Eudaly Bros. Excavation and ran it until selling the firm in 2009 and retiring.
Don’s greatest passion was sailing. His first boat was a Thunderbird. Then he upgraded to a Cal 20, a Cascade 36 (which he built), and a Spencer 54, which he purchased in 1981. Cruises to Alaska, through the Panama Canal, around Mexico and the Caribbean, and races to Hawaii were among the many adventures that he undertook before his final trip to Alaska in 2012. He sold the Spencer in 2018. Don was a member of Portland Yacht Club and Rose City Yacht Club.
His wife Dorothy passed away in January 1997. He was also predeceased by a son, Robert Michael, his daughter, Kathleen Margaret, and by his brother Charles and sister Dorothy Mae. Mr. Eudaly married Donna Acorn in December 1997 and she passed away in 2016.
He is survived by son Steven Patrick Eudaly, daughter Judith Ann Askelson, and stepson Jason Gaston, as well as 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service with military honors will take place at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Portland on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11 am. Mr. Eudaly will be privately interred at Willamette National Cemetery.
