Deacon Douglas Lee Goldsby I
Douglas Lee Goldsby was born on February 5,1962 in Portland, Oregon to the late Alfonzo Goldsby Sr. and Gwendlyn Goldsby. He has six siblings; Alfonzo Goldsby Jr. of Vancouver, WA; Janette Green, Janice Goldsby, Mark Goldsby and Betty McGee of Portland, OR; and Wendell Goldsby of Vancouver, WA. Douglas was number six of the Goldsby seven.
Growing up, the family attended MT Gillard Baptist Church where Reverend W. D. Grant was the pastor. The Goldsby children sung in The Sunshine Band Choir, under the direction of their grandmother, Mother Rebeca Archie. The family enjoyed fishing together and have continued to enjoy it throughout their adulthood. Douglas always kept a few fishing poles in his truck just in case he saw a body of water that he wanted to finish in along his way.
In his formative years Douglas was known as an awesome basketball player from grade school into high school and earned the name FLEA on the basketball court. Even when he no longer played the game, he was the biggest Blazer fan. Douglas’ man cave was adorned with Blazer posters and gear. He had a Blazer cap to match every outfit he wore.
In 1981, Douglas was blessed with his first daughter, Tiffany, who is his look alike. In 1982 Douglas joined the Army and would go on to serve his country for eight and a half years. This service took him to many places in the world such as Panama and Germany. During his deployment in Germany, he was married to Lynne Bowden. From this union he gained a second daughter, Ta`Chelle.
Douglas was promoted to Sergeant and was in the 82nd Airborne Division. This division of the Army specialized in parachute assault operations. Douglas was proud that he had the privilege to serve his country in this capacity.
On returning to civilian life Douglas worked for Metropolitan Pre-Source. As the years passed, he landed a Lead position for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Supervisor in the mailroom department for twenty years. He was also very well known around Portland for his DJ skills as DJ Goldtooth. During this time he was married to Marquita Harris. From this union they were blessed with two children, Brittany and Douglas (Dee).
Douglas remained a hard worker as the years passed on he had the privilege of raising his son (Dee). He no longer had the desire to DJ but in his heart he knew there was something missing. In 2007, he walked into Cornerstone Community COGIC. There he found Christ and began his walk with the Lord. From that day forward, Douglas was a servant of the Lord and his people. He became the church sound and video technician. In 2011 he was chosen to be a Deacon. In 2019 he was selected to be the President of the Men’s department. All of these positions Douglas served with a Godly heart.
But there was still something missing in Douglas' life. Douglas was blessed with a precious gem and God allowed him to have another chance at finding true love and happiness. On May 26, 2013, Terri-Lynn Dennis and Douglas Lee Goldsby became husband and wife. Their love for each other was unfailing. Through this union Douglas was blessed with two more bonus children and three more grandchildren. This completed his wonderful blended family.
Douglas and Terri were married for almost nine years, but their love for each other was that of a lifetime. As he battled through cancer and she continues to battle through Multiple Sclerosis, this faithful couple truly lived out their vows, “through sickness and in health.” Their faith and the love they had for each other only grew stronger. No matter how he was feeling in his body, Douglas never complained. If you asked him how he was feeling, he would always reply, " I am blessed and God’s got me."
They spent the last three years together enjoying retirement with their weekly breakfast dates at Elmer’s, sharing quiet moments over morning coffee, movie nights and time spent in the company of each other. There were countless beach trips with friends, a cruise in the Caribbean, a family Disneyland trip for Christmas, too many fishing outings to count, evenings spent at the Rose Garden for Blazer games and of course, all of the barbecues and dinners at the Goldsby’s with loved ones following Sunday church service.
For no other reason would Douglas want to leave this life, other than the fact that he was answering the call of the Lord to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. So we should REJOICE in knowing our beloved Douglas is now resting from his labor and waiting the receipt of his crown. In his own words, "God’s got me."
He leaves behind the love of his life, Terri L. Dennis-Goldsby; six children, Tiffany, Ta'Chelle (Derek) Edmondson, Brittany, Douglas II (Dee), Derrick (Jamie) Foxworth and Teela Foxworth; as well as nine grandchildren, Ta'Ryah, Ta'Nyah, Terah, Tytus Lee, DJ, Nara, Olivia, Isaiah, and Isaac; and six siblings, Alfonzo, Janette, Janice, Mark, Betty and Wendell; along with a host of cousins, nieces , nephews, and friends in whom his memory will continue on.
