Edna was born in Benkelman, NE. In 1938, at age 12, her family, mother, father and nine brothers moved to Salem, OR. She met her husband, Leland L. Barger in Benkelman, and once he left the service, they were married. They made their home in Portland, and had three children. Later, they bought a farm in Eagle Creek and Edna became a farmer’s wife. Once Leland retired, they moved to Portland and traveled until Leland’s death.
Edna is survived by her brother, Bill Thackery (Kaye); her children, Billie Barger (Candace) and Barbara Bennett; grandchildren, Shelley Frizzell (Geno), Gary Barger, Brent Barger (Kristi), Jacy Whalen (Adam), Casey Bennett, Bryon Barger (Eva), Shanon Ahn (Johnny); and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Barger.
A funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2018, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. in Willamette National Cemetery. Guests are invited to a reception back in the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
