Edward Scarborough was born February 23, 1940 in Birmingham Alabama. He was the 2nd child of four children born to Mary (Lockett) and Naymon Scarborough. In his early youth the family moved to Portland, Oregon where he attended Holladay Elementary and graduated from Washington High School in 1958.
In 1951 Ed’s father started a family business-- “Scarborough’s Oil” which he worked during his youth into adulthood. In 1988 Ed took over the business and fondly renamed it “Dad’s Oil” after his father. Records indicate June 7th, of 1955 that Ed joined the Army National Guard as a Reservist until he was discharged in October 1955 for being underage. He later joined and served honorably as a cook for 13 years. With his million dollar smile and personality to match Ed never met a stranger. Most people fondly knew him as their “Oil Man” Ed proudly worked Dad’s Oil until his retirement in 2006.
In 1963 Ed married the love of his life Katye Eckford from Lake Mississippi. They were blessed with two children Tina and Angela. The two of them were rarely ever seen apart. They enjoyed traveling together whether it was a scenic drive to the coast or a plane ride to Las Vegas they enjoyed each others company.
As a youth Ed attended AME Zion church. Although he didn’t attend services much as an adult he never lost the faith and would send his offering. He loved God and never forgot how to pray and always asked for prayer (don‘t forget the blessed oil). Over the last months Ed came to know Elder Dexter Clark which he fondly referred to as “My Pastor”. Elder Clark would visit with him, witness, share the word and pray with him (along with Pastor Marshall , Pastor Woods and Pastor Hardy).
Ed loved his family and in his final days stated “My family will take care of me!” Ed is preceded in death by his mother Mary, father Naymon and brothers Naymon, and Robert. He is survived by his mother Zelma, wife Katye, children Tina Wade(Daniel), Angela Briggs, and Craig Woods(Keake) and Lynnetta. His Sister Phyllis Ardery(John), Grandchildren De’Love, Craig, Nanea, Tara Danielle, Milan, Shawn , Aunt Noretta Millhouse (Birmingham, AL), nieces, nephews and a whole host of family and friends. He will be missed.
