It was a beautiful Saturday morning, and she was surrounded by family and constant prayer. She was born on March 29, 1939 in Tacoma, Washington to Elias and Kathleen Hallis.
Elaine was a warm, vivacious, and engaging woman. She was respected and admired by all who were blessed to know her. Her caring nature was evident by her actions, not just her words.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John Lampros, their son, Panos Lampros, and daughters, Kathleen Lee and Julie Lampros. She was also a devoted grandmother to Ariana and Lukas Lampros and Olivia Lee.
Elain attended Lincoln High School in Tacoma and graduated in 1956. She had a strong desire to serve in the medical field. She chose Radiology and graduated at the top of her class while in training to become an X-ray technician. She served for many years in her hometown at Tacoma General Hospital. Because of her self-confidence and excellent skills, she was often sought after to help address difficult situations in surgical and emergency room conditions.
Elaine was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Tacoma, where she served as the organist. She was active in various ministries at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Portland, Oregon. She particularly enjoyed serving cancer-stricken children and their families in an outdoor camp environment through her women's ministry organization, Philoptochos. The camp, Kids'N'Cancer Camp Agape, takes placed annually on 50 acres located on the beautiful Sandy River owned by the Greek Community of Portland. The children and their parents, numbering approximately 100, enjoy a week long outdoor recreational experience in a unique rustic setting that included cabins and meals served in a beautiful lodge.
Elaine experience great joy creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. She loved planning family gatherings for holidays and birthdays. She took time like that to include teaching her children and grandchildren the art of homemaking and delicious traditional Greek cooking.
She loved the verse from Philippians 3:13 that, paraphrased, says, "Don't dwell on the past, but look forward to what is before you."
Elaine will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her. She has left a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion that will be forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, contribution in her memory can be made to Kid'N'Cancer through Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
A funeral service & reception for Elaine will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 3131 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97232.
