Frank Riddle passed away from heart failure on May 9, 2016, while on vacation in Portland Oregon. Frank was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 30, 1932. Frank’s family moved to Wisconsin 5 years later. His parents moved often but eventually settled in Racine, Wisconsin where they owned and operated the Service Shade Company. Frank worked closely with his parents at the shop after school, weekends, and summers. He graduated from high school in Racine and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin. He later received an MBA degree from San Jose State University.
After earning his bachelor’s degree Frank moved with his then wife, Marilyn and his 2 year old son Craig to Marin County, California and began his career with Pacific Telephone where he worked for over 30 years. Much of his career was spent in personal and community relations in the Bay Area of Northern California. Frank had always been an active participant in the communities in which he worked. He was the ultimate fund raiser! In addition to his job at the phone company, Frank also taught part time at Evergreen Community College where he taught business and interpersonal relations classes.
After his retirement from Pacific Bell Frank and his wife, Gail, moved to a house on a golf course in Murphys, CA. where they lived for 17 years. Frank’s favorite post retirement job was pouring wine there in the tasting room at Ironstone Vineyards. They moved to Sun City Roseville, California in July 2014.
Frank is survived by his wife, Gail; his son, Craig and his wife, Cindy: his daughter, Aline Donohoe and husband Tom; his step-son, Jeff Vinall; his sister Lois Rhode, grandchildren, Briana, Kevin, Corey, Jack and Chloe; and nephews Joe Rhode and David Thompson; and niece Linda Knopf.
Frank had a lust for life and enjoyed theater, golf, scuba diving, skiing and traveling. He began each morning reading the paper and working the daily crossword puzzles, in pen!
Frank will be missed by everyone who knew him. Memorial services will be held privately at a later date.
Arrangements under the direction of Caldwell's, Hennessey, Goetsch & McGee Funeral Home, Portland, OR.
