

Born 9-21-1921 in Bellingham, WA. Moved to Pullalup, WA. then to Portland, OR when 5 years old. Attended Fernwood Grade School, Grant High School and Oregon State University graduating in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering in 1943. Member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.
Inducted into US Army 1943, attended Artillery officer training school Fort Sill, Okla. Married to Dorothy Lilly in the Old Post Chapel at Fort Sill May 20, 1944. Sent to 13th Armored Div Brownwood TX then to Fort Knox, KT and on to Camp Schanks NY, then overseas joining the 4th Infantry Div. 29th Field Artillery Unit. Stayed with the 4th Div. till disbanded at Camp Butner, NC. Automatically transferred into the U.S. Airforce stationed at Portland, OR 124th Fighter Squadron. Retired from Service joining Father’s Food and Research Chemist business. Started a mail order business Cake-Craft, later joined it with Father’s business. Returned to engineering joining OECO designing electric cables for the Gemina Space Project at Cape Canaveral, Fl. Have three daughters Claudia Scott, Laurie Gardner and Maradee Strong. Joined Lamb Grays Harbor Co. as Project Manager in Vancouver, B.C. Cargate Division. Became resident engineer and Project Manager for their jobs at Pierce, ID Potlatch Corp. and Bellingham, WA Plywood Mill. Traveled extensively in B.C, Canada, Yukon Territory and Alaska. Left Canada and joined Archer Blower & Pipe Co. Portland, OR. Was elected President of Willamette Valley Chapter Forest Products Industry and later elected to Board of Directors of Forest Industry in Madison, WI. Designed waste paper trim systems for Graphics Arts Center WEYCO Box Plant and Crown Zellerbach North Portland operations. Went to Chicago as Project Manager for their Solid Waste Project with Common Wealth Edison, then on loan to Monticello, GA with Georgia Pacific as Project Engineer. Sent to Flagstaff AZ as Project Manager and resident engineer for Santa Fe Railroad and SW Forest Industry. My next project was for the Indians at Bemidji, MS Partical Board Plant then on to Passadumkeag, MA with Diamond Int. then to Woodland, Maine WEYCO huge mill as Project Manager. Being a pollution control engineer took me into working with Grain Elevators such as Continental, Columbia Grain, United Grain, etc. At this point Archer, Blower & Pipe Co. went out of business. Joined Jim Hall a factory rep. working with Boeing in Seattle & Everett WA. and all the Paper Mills in the NW. Later joined L.E. Pauli Co. engineering design and installation supervision as Project Manager. Going to WEYCO, Moncure, N.C. startup of Blue Ridge manufacturing plant in Grande Prairie Alberta, Canada. Design work on plants in Hobart, Tasimania, Kalimattian, Indoneisa, 3 in Australia, Bend Mill Work Bend OR, and many others. Traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Figi, Canada, Alaska, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, China, Japan and many other places. Retired in 2003 at age 82 after breaking my right leg.
