

George Kendall Siegner, known by many as “Ken” or “Bud”, passed away peacefully in Portland on November 16, 2011, at age 96. Born August 11, 1915, in Port Orchard, Washington to Oscar M. and Ida Mae (Kendall) Siegner, he attended Portland schools and was a member of Sea Scouts and Oregon National Guard. He circled the world twice as a merchant seaman for Standard Oil from 1935-1939. At Commercial Iron Works in Portland, he built Navy ships as a welder and foreman from 1941 to 1946. At Willamette Iron and Steel Works he worked in steel construction from 1946-1978, the last 20 years as a quality control engineer. Once Portland chapter president of the American Welding Society and District Scout Commissioner, he was later a member of the Society for Non-Destructive Testing. Preceded in death by his wife Dessie (married 1938, died 2005), he is survived by his son Roger Siegner (wife Sandra) of Portland and his daughter, Gail Haywood (husband Chuck) of San Jose, CA. George was a loving grandfather to Elizabeth Hoffman (Ken), Gregory Switzer (Heather), and Tracy Ramirez (Frank); and seven great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held.
