Georgia Valeria (Miser) Purcell
January 4, 1925 - November 24, 201
Georgia was born in Rogers, Arkansas to William Leonard Miser and Addie May Tiner on January 4, 1925. She passed on November 24, 2017 at the age of 92.
Georgia passed peacefully in her sleep at the home of her youngest daughter (Dianna) in Gresham, Oregon. Up until the week she passed, Georgia was able to attend Hope Church every Sunday, play pinochle every Friday at the Gresham Senior Center, and go to her first granddaughter’s (Debbie) beauty salon for her to do her hair; which she had done every week since graduating from beauty school including just two days before Mom passed. Mom always said she felt like a million bucks after her hair was done. She was able to see her newest grandchild, Jasmine, for the first time at the family Thanksgiving dinner. She also enjoyed listening to the CD’s of old time country music that her daughter (Linda) had made especially for her.
Linda preceded her unexpectedly in death on June 19, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. Georgia also loved to dance and rumors have it that gentlemen lined up to dance the two-step or waltz with her. She rarely missed a Saturday night dance no matter where she was living or whom she was married to. Her dancing days ended abruptly when she tripped over a garden hose and broke her ankle. She was not able to dance or work after that accident, but that didn’t slow her down. She continued attending dances just to listen to the music often. She also took up fishing and camping at Ochoco Lake State Park in Eastern Oregon with friends and family. She became a snowbird driving to Arizona for the Winter in her motor home with her friend Dorothy. When the Desert Sun Condominiums became available to purchase in Apache Junction, Arizona, Georgia was one of the first to buy.
She married her first husband, Ervin (Ervie) Eugene Nail (our Dad) on January 5, 1942 in Rogers, Arkansas. The Army took them to Camp Adair in Corvallis, Oregon where their first daughter was born on April 6th, 1943. They went on to have 2 other daughters, Peggy and Dianna and a son, Jerry. After the war, they returned to Pea Ridge, Arkansas to work the Miser Family Farm. They divorced in 1959 and Georgia moved back to Oregon with her four children. Georgia was one of the original house flippers – having purchased several homes in Portland to remodel and resell. She went on to marry five husbands altogether, including one of them three times, but she was happiest with her, Bob, whom she met at Desert Sun, where they both owned Winter homes. She married Robert (Bob) Dale Purcell in Mesa, Arizona on February 21, 1995. Together they traveled extensively in a motor home visiting friends and national parks. Bob preceded her in death on July 22, 2000.
After Bob passed Georgia moved to the Gresham Manor in 2011, Gresham, Oregon where she was able to participate in pinochle games and outings. She was happy there sitting out on her deck overlooking the turnaround surrounded by her flowers and tomato plants. In 2013, when she needed more care, she moved to her youngest daughter’s (Dianna) home where she remained until her passing. Her only son (Jerry) visited 2-3 times every week and her second daughter (Peggy) also visited often.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents (Leonard and Addie Miser), her husband (Bob), and her daughter Linda (Mick) Mae Lauder. Georgia is survived by: Daughters, Peggy Rake and Dianna Roberts; Son, Jerry (Sandra) Nail; Son-in-law Mick (Linda) Lauder; and Grandchildren, Debbie (Jim) Chianello, Roger Rake, Denise Obrist, Tonya (Jason) Surprise, Stephanie Burleigh, Jonah (Krystal) Nail, and Troy (Heather) Nail and 12 great-grandchildren. We love you, Mom!
