A memorial service will be held for Gerald Lee Fox at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th 2011 at Valley Community Presbyterian Church located at 8060 Brentwood St. Portland, OR 97225. Gerald passed away at age 69 on July 16, 2011 in Portland, Oregon. He was born on August 12, 1941 in Portland to Andrew and Fay Fox. Gerald grew up in southwest Portland and attended West T.V. elementary and graduated from Beaverton High School in 1959.
He met his future bride; Donna Skiles through a blind date set up by friends and they were married in 1963.
For a short time he served in the Coast Guard and eventually he started a job at Pacific Fencing making fireplace screens, he then went on to work at Tektronix. He held several positions, and eventually becoming a manger, retiring in 1998 after 30 dedicated years.
After his retirement Gerald stayed extremely active becoming a volunteer greeter at the Oregon Historical Society, Oregon Zoo Rose Garden and the Convention Center. Known as a “people person” this was a perfect fit for him, enjoying the conversations he started with a stranger that soon became a new friend. He was on a first name basis with the employees at the Burgerville across from the convention center, always ordering a “hamburger with extra sauce”.
He attended Valley Community Presbyterian Church and liked it because it gave him the opportunity to talk with the church goers.
Family was very important to Gerald, he was a proud grandfather and great grandfather. He would make frequent trips to see his grandson C.J. at the Albertson’s store he worked at, even making friends with C.J.’s co-workers. To put it simply, family was extremely important to Gerald.
He was predeceased by his wife, Donna in 1998 and is survived by his daughter, Veronica Fox-Spisla of Portland; son, Jerry A. (Christy) Fox of Portland; 5 grandchilren, C.J. Spisla, Amanda Sirois, Nicole Sirois, Jayson Kinoshita and Janet Kinoshita; and 5 great grandchildren, Kylie Hancock, Jasmine Kinoshita, Sean Kinoshita, Luca (Buddies) Markley and Dallas LaGore; two special pets, Paprika the cat and Monster the dog.
