Gloria Ann Raab was born in Butte, Montana on July 26, 1940 to Michael Paul Rask and Annie Elizabeth Joseph. She moved to Portland, Oregon at the age of three, where she was raised with her brothers, Leroy and Raymond, and her sister, Nancy- as well as many close cousins. To Gloria, family was everything. She took pride in her Lebanese roots, often honoring her culture through the food she cooked. Her happy place was in the kitchen. She was often seen standing behind the counter, watching family and friends laugh, eat, and enjoy one another’s company. Looking up at her from the dining table, you knew she was happy and had all she needed.
Gloria married the love of her life, Walter Raab, in 1967. During their 57 years of marriage, they raised their two sons, Douglas and Derek, welcomed Doug’s spouse, Heather Biglin and later became grandparents to Doug and Heather’s daughters, Gabriella and Zoё. To her grandchildren, Gloria was known as Situ.
In addition to being an amazing mother to her sons, Gloria worked as a dental assistant for many years at her close cousin, Gene Rask’s, dental office- where she developed many friendships with patients and coworkers.
The holidays were especially important to Gloria. She and Wally hosted Thanksgiving for her immediate and extended family, as well as friends and anyone else who walked through the door. No matter the day or time, Gloria welcomed visitors with open arms and flat bread. You always knew you would be well fed with love and food in her home. She truly left a lasting impression on everyone who was lucky enough to meet her.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Walter, her sons, Douglas and Derek, her daughter in law, Heather, her grandchildren, Gabriella and Zoё, her brother, Raymond, her sister, Nancy, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
