

Greg was born in Sioux City, Iowa on March 14, 1944. Greg earned his Bachelor’s degree from Emory University and his medical doctor degree at the University of the Florida in 1970. After serving in the Air Force, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at The Medical College of Georgia.
Greg accepted a position at the Oregon Health & Science University in 1978 in Portland, Oregon. He spent the next 40 years as the Clerkship Director of medicine and a professor of Internal Medicine. Greg organized the National Clerkship Directors of Internal Medicine in 1991 and was awarded the Emeritus Status in 2018. Greg mentored and advised hundreds of medical students during those years at OHSU.
Greg enjoyed hiking, backpacking, and working in the yard and exploring the local cuisine in Portland. Greg and Joanne enjoyed traveling internationally. Greg was a talented pianist and wrote many hymns.
Greg was a member of Westside: A Jesus Church and treasured his relationships in his church “care group”.
Greg is survived by his spouse of 52 years – Joanne, sons Ryan, Seth (Spouse Tamilla), daughters Marina (Spouse Everardo), Natalya, Sarah (Spouse Jeremy) brother Salem and Sister Elizabeth and 4 grandchildren: Viktoryia, Elijah, Oscar and Marcel.
Greg wanted to finish strong, and he did.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful and now the prize awaits me…” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8
