Hal C. Morrow passed away in Portland, Oregon on September 7, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, September 12, 2011 at Cherry Park Presbyterian Church, 348 Cherry Park Rd.; Troutdale, Or.
Hal was born in Macomb, Illinois, where he was raised and educated. He was the fifth of twelve children born to Alonzo and Rose Morrow. He was a carpenter who used his talents to help build homes, maintain schools, and repair the homes and businesses of friends, family and customers. He opened a construction firm in 1960 and operated it until 1975. He enjoyed his large garden in Rockwood where neighbors and family shared in the abundant harvest over the years. He provided a long row of multi-colored roses along their yard on 181st where passers-by could stop and smell to their heart’s content, or even ask for a flower, as they went along their way. He spent many years participating on the Rockwood School Board (1950 - 1967) and the Thunderbird District of the Boy Scouts of America. He also worked in the maintenance department of the Reynolds School District. Hal was an avid reader until the last years of his life.
He married Nellie Louise Blodgett on August 6, 1937 in Canton, Mo.. They moved to Oregon to follow work opportunities. Louise passed in 1977. He later married Marilyn Hanger Wolfe on June 2, 1979, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, in Portland.
Hal is preceded in death by his son, Ed Morrow, who died in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Morrow; children, Ginger Bradbury, Claudia Brooks, Kristi Morrow, Jane Slebos, Steven Wolfe, Doug Wolfe and Susan Proffitt; 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
