Ira "Artie" Wilfong, 69, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on September 3, 2023. Artie was born on May 4, 1954, in Kentucky, and moved to Portland with his family at a young age. He grew up in the inner city neighborhood, surrounded by his five siblings, Jesse, Joy, Jettie, Earl, and Warren. It was during his time in the Army that Artie earned his nickname, as he had a passion for drawing with black and white, despite being colorblind.
Artie was known for his cool and crass demeanor, with a dry sense of humor that brought laughter to those around him. He had a remarkable talent for fixing anything and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Artie had a deep love for his family and would do anything for his friends, who were like family to him.
In his free time, Artie had a passion for cars and derby racing. Artie's love for Mexican food, especially quesadillas, was well-known, and he enjoyed savoring the flavors that brought him joy. And when it came to his beloved cat, Junior, their bond was strong.
Artie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delora, and his fiancée, Bernadine "Bernie." He also mourned the loss of his brothers, Jesse, Warren, and Earl, as well as his sister, Jettie. However, Artie is survived by his children, Shannon Poe, Stacy Wilfong, Thomas Schoeneman, Patricia Searls, and Joshua Rodriguez. He leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, carried on by his grandchildren, Alyce, Charyce, Chance, Cody, Tyler, Shayla, Austin, Taylor, Elijah, Jolena, Joseph, Dominic, Legend, Alora, and Aiden. Additionally, Artie cherished his nephew Warren, who was like a son to him, and his sister, Joy.
Artie's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and his artistic spirit will continue to inspire those who appreciate the beauty he brought into the world.
