Ishwarbhai Bhavan was born on November 14, 1948, in Vanesa, Gujarat, to Morarbhai and Nandiben Patel. The youngest of four children—sibling to Laxmiben, Thakorbhai, and Jagubhai—he grew up with a spark of ambition, a tireless work ethic, and a deep respect for family that would define the course of his life.
He pursued his education at Surat Engineering College, where his curiosity and determination laid the groundwork for a successful future. In 1972, Ishwarbhai made a bold move, immigrating first to Canada, where he married Sudhaben, in 1975. A year later, they settled in Los Angeles, California, beginning a journey filled with devotion, resilience, and shared dreams.
Ishwarbhai’s years in Los Angeles were marked by hard work, vision, and perseverance. His natural talent for leadership, his warmth in building lasting relationships, and his keen business sense allowed him to establish a strong foundation for his family. Together, he and Sudhaben created a loving home filled with purpose, culture, and joy.
They were blessed with three children—Falguny in 1978, Priya in 1984, and Amit in 1985. Ishwarbhai’s greatest pride was in their happiness and success. He dedicated himself to ensuring they had every opportunity to thrive, offering unwavering support, encouragement, and love. His legacy lives on in their accomplishments and the families they have built.
In 1988, the family relocated to Monmouth, Oregon, and later to Salem in 1995. Wherever he lived, Ishwarbhai left a lasting mark—not just through his professional endeavors, but through his deep commitment to community.
A passionate advocate for cultural preservation and unity, he helped establish and lead several community organizations, always guided by kindness, humility, and vision.
Ishwarbhai had a rare gift for connection. He was a magnetic storyteller, a gracious host, and a man who made everyone feel seen and valued. He found joy in karaoke, lively conversations, planning gatherings, and bringing people together. His generosity knew no bounds, whether in time, resources, or spirit.
In his later years, Ishwarbhai embraced the quiet joys of life—spending time with his grandchildren, traveling with loved ones, and savoring the beauty of each day. He often reminded others to "live fully and give freely," a phrase that captures the heart of who he was.
Ishwarbhai is survived by his beloved wife, Sudhaben; his children Falguny (and Nabil Choueiri), Priya (and Michael Gerdes), and Amit (and Poonam Bhavan); his grandchildren (Amar, Aryan, Maya, Kira, Reyan, & Rani); and his brother (Thakorbhai) and other extended family and friends who cherished him deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Laxmiben), and brother (Jagubhai).
Though Ishwarbhai is no longer with us, his spirit remains present—in the lives he touched, the principles he lived by, and the enduring love he shared. He will be missed beyond measure and remembered with endless gratitude.
A funeral service for Ishwar will be held Friday, May 2, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 3:45 PM at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary, 6801 SW Sunset Hwy, Portland, OR 97225.
