Jack Arthur Dailey was born to Arthur and Muriel Dailey on July 7th 1931 in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1949. A year after graduating his sister Doris introduced him to Betty Arlene Whitaker who he would go on to marry at the young age of 19. After High School Jack enlisted in the United States Coast Guard at Tongue Point in 1950 and continued his service until 1953.
After his enlistment Jack enrolled at Northwestern School of Commerce for a degree in accounting, which he put to good use shortly after graduating when he worked for Pacific, Power, & Light (PacifiCorp). Jack was a hard worker who loved his job and was good at what he did. He got promoted to Accounting Supervisor and never looked back. Only stopping when he decided it was time to retire in 1990 at the age of 59, still never really slowing him down.
Jack was married to Betty Arlene Whitaker for 44 years before she passed away in 1994. He remarried a year later in 1995 to Betty Van Buskirk. Shortly after getting married, the two of them gathered their things and moved south to a warmer climate in Tucson, Arizona where Jack dearly loved the sunshine. Although Jack loved the warm weather and sun he returned to the Pacific Northwest, to be closer to his family. So in 2002 he and Betty moved back up to Portland where he remained since.
To say Jack liked to play golf would be a major understatement. He was so infatuated and dedicated to the wonderful game he was even known to play in the snow, and not just once, no this was on multiple occasions. Many people would be lucky to get one hole in 1 in their lifetime, but Jack got 9! He didn’t stop at golf though; Jack was also a prolific bowler, adding multiple trophies to his mantle. His hobbies didn’t stop there; you could often find him sitting down with a good book if he wasn’t out on the course or in the ally. Being such an avid reader it was hard to find a book he didn’t like, but good luck finding a James Patterson novel that Jack didn’t instantly love. As much as reading was his thing, he also loved watching the best mystery series ever put out… Sherlock Holmes. All in all, Jack was a family man and enjoyed most when he could get the family together to go out and grab a bite to eat, although you would be lucky to be able to pay for your meal.
Jack Arthur Dailey passed away on January 1st, 2017 in Gresham, Oregon. He was survived by his Wife Betty Van Buskirk, Sister Doris Martin, 2 Children Brian Dailey (Denise) and Jackie Bennett (Steve), 2 Stepsons Brent and Scott, 1 Stepdaughter-in-law Tere, 3 Grandsons Aaron, Kyle and Ian, and 4 Great Grandchildren.
