January 1, 1954 - December 31, 2011
James Paul Steinfeld was called home to heaven on December 31, 2011 at the age of 57, following a courageous fight with brain cancer. Jim was born on January 1, 1954, the fourth child to Raymond Henry Steinfeld, Sr. and June Catherine (Cox) Steinfeld. A graduate of Scappoose High School in 1972 and Lewis and Clark College in 1975, he began work at Lamb Weston in Idaho for two years before coming back to join the family business, Steinfeld's Products Company, primarily as COO until 1999, when the business was sold. The remainder of his career life was spent between real estate and full time ministry. Over the course of his life, Jim was actively involved in many non-profits including: Optimist, FISH, and Young Life: Portland West, Regional, and Divisional. He served as an elder at St. Andrews Presbyterian and Sunset Presbyterian Church, and was the Chair of the Business Management Committee on the George Fox University Board of Trustees. The most important things to Jim were his faith in Jesus Christ and his relationships with family and friends. In 1975 he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life , Patsy (Burns) Steinfeld, and together they had four daughters. He loved being in God's creation, whether duck hunting, fishing, skiing, biking, walking, boat driving, or leading friends and family on one of his many adventures. Jim had an energy, enthusiasm, and passion that were contagious. He was a loving and devoted husband to Patsy, caring and wise dad to his girls and sons-in-law, and beloved Papa to his five grandchildren. He was also a respected mentor and friend, and enjoyed many rich conversations in the "manspace" at his and Patsy's house. Jim was predeceased by his father Raymond H. Steinfeld, Sr. and brother Raymond H. Steinfeld, Jr. He is survived by his mother June Steinfeld of Scappoose, OR; sisters Barbara Furer (husband Robert) of Dayton, OR, Carolyn Guppy (husband Christopher) of Steilacoom, WA, and Pat Thomas of Gresham, OR; his wife Patsy Steinfeld of Portland, OR; daughters Jessica Marshall (husband Christopher) of Antelope, OR, Jocelyn Stein (husband Matthew) of Newberg, OR, Jillian Wang (husband Justin) of Beaverton, OR, and Jamie Steinfeld of Portland, OR; in addition to five grandchildren: Abigail, Kylie, Hannah, Braden, and Emma.
