There were two other siblings still at home. Her brother Warren (Bud) was 12 years old when Janet was born and her sister Florence was just a few days short of her 11th birthday. They were solicitous of their little sister.
Janet graduated from Laurelwood Academy in 1954, and received her Bachelors in Nursing from Walla Walla College in 1959. She nursed at Portland Sanitarium and Hospital, then worked as an office nurse for Dr. Merril Mathiesen before joining the Oregon Trail Chapter of Red Cross, where she worked for many years in the Blood Mobile. She enjoyed the people she worked with and the travel until her retirement in 1995 following a debilitating car accident.
Janet will be remembered for many things. Among them is her great love of flowers. She was especially fond of lilies and would often share her prized blooms with friends and family. She also loved birds, both the wild birds that she fed and her pet parakeets. She not only fed birds, but also squirrels, and was delighted with the ones who would come to her porch and eat right from her hand.
Janet moved to Lausche Gardens Assisted Living in Oregon City in 2007. In June of this year she was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. She died peacefully at Lausche Gardens on November 16, 2014.
She was preceeded in death by her parents Conrad and Mary Dick, her sister Dorothy who died as a child, and her sister Lola Bartholomew. She is survived by her brother Warren (Bud) and his wife Becky of Oregon City OR, her sister Florence Crumley of Berrien Springs MI, nine nieces and nephews, and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
