Jean Brent Holmes was born on Friday the 13th of July, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin along with her twin sister June. Both June and Jean lead very special lives having moved to the Phillipines in 1925 (at 2 years old) and living there for 7 years until 1932, then off for a trip around the world by ship complete with riding camels at the Pyramids of Egypt. Then Jean moved to Argentina, grew up there and in 1944 met Naval Officer Ray Holmes, courted and they married in 1945. Jean and Ray moved back to the United States after the War and moved to Chicago, where first son John was born. Another move in 1948 took Jean and Ray to Canoga Park, California where second son Dan was born.
Jean was a gifted artist who always strived to do her very best at everything she did. Jean's mosaics, needlework, and jewelry art are beautiful examples of her expression for life. Jean was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Jean and Ray were married for 61 years and were very loved by their family and friends. Jean died peacefully at home at the age of 87. She is survived by her two sons: John and Dan; and three grandchildren: Andrew, Jessica, and Jennifer.
A Celebration of life will take place in St. Luke Lutheran Church, 6835 SW 46th Ave. in Portland, OR, at 1 pm on Saturday, September 25, 2010.
