Joanne M. Tomlinson, born in 1948, passed away at the age of 76 after years of battling an untreatable heart condition. She departed swiftly, surrounded by her loved ones, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.
Born in Everett, WA, Joanne was the daughter of Harold and Roberta Dyke. She spent her formative years in Vancouver, WA, and Portland, OR, where she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966.
In 1967, Joanne married Tom Tomlinson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Portland, OR. Their love story began when they met as kids, accidentally, through family friends. Although Tom initially didn’t like her, Joanne knew he was the one she wanted to marry.
Joanne’s life was dedicated to her roles as a devoted and loving wife and mama rock, home executive, grandma extraordinaire, financial alchemist and dog mom. Her passions included showering affection on her dogs, gardening, and watching home shopping shows.
Her heartfelt “I love you” was always genuine, and she playfully referred to the “S WORD” as the “Family Word.” Joanne’s wicked sense of humor remained hidden until later years, especially after her first stroke, when her contagious laughter became a cherished part of family gatherings.
Always putting others before herself, Joanne was the bedrock of her family. Her unwavering commitment to family values and resourcefulness with finances and food left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Tom; her daughter, Felecia Walls; her son, Bryce and daughter-in-law Julie Tomlinson; and her grandchildren, RJ Walls and his wife Chelsea, Julia Walls, Summer Walls, Grey Walls, and Trysten Tomlinson. Her sister, Lesa Wood, also mourns her passing.
A private memorial will be held, with location and date to be determined. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making a generous donation to the Oregon Humane Society—a cause close to Joanne’s heart.
