Mr. Schauer was born on February 14, 1930 in Fort Collins, CO to Ralph Vincent Schauer and Angeline Ann (Michaud) Schauer. He graduated from high school in 1948 and left home to study Chemical Engineering at Notre Dame, from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952. He worked for DuPont for a year after college in Oak Ridge, TN, and it was there he met Betty Anne West, who was working for Union Carbide. They were married at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Spartanburg, SC on October 30, 1954.
Jack served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving his honorable discharge in 1955. He and Betty Anne started their family as they relocated to Long Beach, CA as he began his career with Shell Oil Company. They also lived in Pleasantville NY for a few years, The Hague, Netherlands and Edwardsville IL briefly, eight years in Moraga, CA, and then from 1973 until earlier this year in the same home in Houston, TX. He retired from Shell in 1991 as a Senior Staff Engineer.
Among his interests was travel – well-organized vacations to Europe, visiting relatives around the country, camping trips, and time spent on the road as Betty Anne sang with the Houston Symphony Chorus providing many precious memories. He also coached church and Little League teams, attended sporting events, and was active at his church - Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Houston. He and Betty Anne loved to dance, and he was very supportive of her interest in the arts. He enjoyed reading history, and after retirement he had a second career of sorts in financial planning and finance, assisting people with their financial affairs. However, his greatest pleasure was taken in family. Jack loved being a father and grandfather, and was always supportive and proud of all of everyone’s accomplishments and achievements. He was always willing to help his family - even his in-laws were grateful many times over the years for his support and assistance when it was needed.
Jack was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Schauer, and a sister, Lois Harris.
He will be missed by his wife of over 61 years, Betty Anne Schauer of West Linn, OR;
Children John Schauer and wife Karen of Alaska, James “Jay” Schauer and wife Amy of West Linn,
Elizabeth “Betsy” Schauer and husband Brent of Tucson, AZ, and Thomas “Tom” Schauer of Grants Pass, OR;

and by numerous nieces and nephews.
