Juanita Harrison was born Juanita McDaniel to Arthur and Mary McDaniel on February 26, 1924 in Baskin, Louisiana. Juanita was the youngest child and only daughter of 4 children also known as Baby Sis. Juanita attended Winnsboro High School in Winnsboro, Louisiana. She later met and married her one and only love of her life Clifton D. Harrison. They started their family and continued to live in Louisiana until 1957 when Clifton and Juanita decided to load up the 3 kids taking only what they could fit in their Chevrolet and small U-Haul trailer and headed out for a new life in Portland, Oregon. Juanita held various jobs working in a nursing home, cannery and a production line until finally becoming a career clerk for the United States Postal Service where she worked decades until retiring in 1984. Juanita was a hard worker, even after retirement she volunteered at the Oregon Food Bank for years. Juanita loved watching sports from car racing, football, baseball to basketball (her favorite college team was Gonzaga). She was an avid outdoors woman hunting for deer and elk well into her 80’s and fishing whenever she could into her 90th year. She also enjoyed traveling in motorhomes and loved to take those trips back down South to see her beloved family members that she had to leave behind. She was always welcomed with big hugs, long stories, great food and calls out for Baby Sis. Juanita was also very competitive in playing cards, dominoes, Aggravation, Phase 10 and later Skipbo with her family and friends well into the wee hours. She enjoyed a good rummage or yard sale and collected mini spoons from all over the world. She kept her mind sharp with crocheting and playing her daily Sudoku games. Even though she now lived up North, she never lost that Southern hospitality, she welcomed all and took many others in and loved each one as she loved her own children.
Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, baby girl, parents, 3 brothers and many special loved ones. She is survived by daughter Norma Harrison and husband Ernie Ashurst of Camas, WA; son Clifton D. Harrison Jr. of Portland, OR; daughter Glenda and husband Hal Haines of Hillsboro, OR; adopted son Everett and wife Faye McDaniel of Wilmot, AR; daughter-in-law and loving caregiver Jo Ann Harrison of Macedonia, OH; and special long-time devoted God daughter Sandra Thompson of Portland, OR; 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews from Washington to Louisiana and Texas to Alabama.
