Juanita Ann Seifert, born on June 28, 1943, in Seaside, Oregon, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished daughter of Mary (Humphrey) and Neil Goodrich and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry Lee Seifert.
As the youngest of four sisters, Juanita grew up with her sisters Genny, Shirley, and Dorothy, experiencing a childhood filled with adventure and the great outdoors. The family moved frequently, including a stint in Portland, but settled in Hermiston, Oregon with her aunt until she graduated from Hermiston High School in 1962. From a young age, she developed a passion for fishing, a love that would last her entire life.
In the early 1960’s, Juanita met Harry Seifert, the love of her life, while he was in Portland on military leave. Their bond was immediate and profound. They married on July 3, 1963, and celebrated a remarkable 61 years of marriage, building a life filled with love and adventure in Milwaukie, Oregon.
Juanita’s family life blossomed with the arrival of her two daughters, Mary Teresa and Sandy Lorraine. She and Harry created a warm and loving home, filled with joy and laughter. They cherished family outings, camping trips, and beach adventures, where they enjoyed clam digging and fishing together. Juanita was not just a mother; she was a Girl Scout leader, a 4-H supporter, and a crafty soul who poured her creativity into everything she did. Juanita was active throughout her life, playing volleyball and softball, gardening, and roller-skating. She delighted in her flower garden and loved nothing more than a day at the beach. Despite facing challenges, including legal blindness, Juanita exemplified resilience and generosity. From 2006 to 2018, she volunteered at Jennings Lodge School, devoted to helping children learn and grow.
Juanita is survived by her two daughters, Mary Seifert Pennington and Sandy Seifert; four grandchildren, Desiree, Anthony, Adam, and Danielle; and five great-grandchildren, Easton, Olivia, Paisley, Harley, and Jensen; and sisters, Genny and Shirley. Above all, Juanita's life was defined by her bright smile, generous spirit, and her unwavering dedication to family. Her motto, “Can’t sit still, let’s go!” encapsulated her zest for life, inspiring all who knew her to cherish every moment. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love will forever live on in the hearts of her family.
A committal service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, 2:15 pm at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, Oregon. Those wishing to attend should arrive no later than 1:45 pm in order to be led into the cemetery for services.
