Kathryn was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to Claude Shirk and Jennie (Bush) Shirk. She was married May 5, 1947 to Colin Thomas Dawson who preceded her in death in April of 1998. Kathryn earned a bachelor's degree in teaching and gave 30+ years of her life to teaching third grade at Peninsula Elementary School in north Portland retiring in 1975. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers; Eldred Shirk and Wilmer Shirk. Among those who will miss Kathryn are her nieces Carol Shirk and Trudi Hunt Pleis; her nephew William Hunt and her sister-in-law Marjorie (Dawson) Hunt.
