

Kenneth Wayne Knapp died December 19, 2011 after a six-year battle with cancer. He was born May 6, 1942 to Scott and Hertha Knapp in Barre, Vermont, the third of five boys. He grew up in nearby East Corinth, where he graduated from Bradford Academy in 1960. He studied Forestry at Paul Smith's College in New York, graduating in 1962, then worked for Heath Survey, traveling around the country. He settled in Oregon and married Joan Everett. They moved to Eugene, where he studied Landscape Architecture at the University of Oregon, graduating in 1974. While there, he published a book called Trees of the Oregon Campus.
He and his family then moved to Portland, where he taught at Portland Community College Rock Creek until 1996. He married Laura Watts in 2003, at the Siletz River. Besides his lifelong love of plants, Ken loved fishing, casting bronze sculptures, and turning wood. Ken is survived by brothers Mark and Brent, wife Laura, son Michael, daughter Lisa, and granddaughters Sophia and Simone.
A memorial celebration and potluck will be held at Tualatin Heritage Center 8700 SW Sweek Drive, Tualatin OR 97062 on February 4 from 1-3 PM. Donations in Ken's memory may be sent to Odyssey Hospice.
