Ted was born in Hood River, Oregon to Lawrence and Ruth Leininger. He passed away in Portland at the age of 80. The family later moved to Portland where he graduated from Benson High School. After high school, Ted spent eight years with the Air National Guard.
Ted owned and drove a dump truck, working with his father, for many years in the construction industry. In 1975 Ted sold his truck and went to work for Oil Co. (now Star Oil Co.) first as a home delivery driver and later, as a truck and trailer driver until his retirement in 1992. On June 14, 1975, Ted married the love of his life, Marilyn, in Portland.
Ted enjoyed life and, in his words, “didn’t miss much”. He loved being outside and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ted’s favorite spot was Heppner but he also enjoyed trips to the Mosier area. He loved to garden and tend to his roses, was a member of the Beaverton Elks Lodge 1989, and the Teamsters Union, Local 162.
He will be missed by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn; children, Gene Leininger of Eager, Arizona, Tammie Neil of Gold Beach, Oregon, and Brenda McGee of Gold Beach, Oregon; sister, Ruthie Joanne Sterle of Oregon City, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Portland. Please visit his online memorial and guestbook at www.skylinememorialgardens.com.
