At a young age, LeMoyne and his family moved west for a short while to Fresno, California. They then moved to Portland, Oregon where he attended the first grade at Glenhaven School in N.E. Portland. The family moved back to the dairy farm in Wisconsin and he attended the second through fourth grades at Deer Park State Grade School. He went fifth through eighth grades at Grandview, a one room school in the township of Stanton. He graduated from Amery High School, Amery, Wisconsin in 1941. After high school he took a correspondence class in practical radio from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin in 1942. From 1941 to 1950 he worked on his dad's dairy farm fixing radios on the side.
In 1950 he once again moved to Portland with his parents. His sister, Elvera and her husband Lester Anderson and son Arlyn followed them out to Oregon shortly after. He worked one year for Doernbecher Furniture Company in Portland. On May 14, 1951 he started working for Tektronix, Inc. at the Washington County facility on Barnes Road (by St. Vincent Hospital). He retired from Tektronix April 29, 1983 after almost 32 years.
LeMoyne was very active in the Lutheran church and met his future wife, Eleanor Lillian Elssner at a singles group at Our Savior Lutheran Church in N.E. Portland. They married on June 16, 1957 and were married 43 years until Eleanor's death in November 2000. They moved to Beaverton, Oregon in 1957 and adopted two daughters, Sharon Faith (March 22, 1960) and Janice Joy (March 15, 1962). The family lived in Beaverton until 1968 when they moved out to the "country land" of Aloha, Oregon where LeMoyne remained until selling his house in October, 2010 and moving in with his daughter Janice, her husband, Brian and family.
He was blessed with four grandchildren, Travis William Gallien (Nicole), Falisha Nicole Pursinger, Miranda Leigh Berry (Scott) and Larissa Renae Asmus.
He had a special relationship with each of his grandchildren and was a wonderful grandpa who loved them dearly. He babysat them, took them to school, and sometimes Sunday School for years.
He was also blessed with five great-granddaughters, Eleanor Jane Pursinger, Lillian Grace Berry, Emilia Elizabeth Berry, Analeise Noelle Asmus, and Lucy Nicole Gallien.
When Eleanor became sick with multiple sclerosis in the late 1980s, he became her caregiver until a stroke in 2000 left him wheelchair bound.
He liked to stay busy and worked in his yard and around the house until he was physically unable to do so. When he moved from his house in 2010 he really missed his blueberry bushes which he had moved from Beaverton to Aloha in 1968. He also enjoyed helping people out and when Eleanor's parents started aging, he drove them to doctor's appointments, and helped them however he could. He loved going to the mountains. He would tolerate the beach but only because the rest of the family enjoyed it.
LeMoyne was a lifelong devout Christian. He lived to serve the Lord. So important was this to him that he left instructions to add his spiritual life to any tribute or memorial:
He was also predeceased by his parents, and sister Elvera Anderson.
LeMoyne was called home to be with the Lord and those who went before him on June 6, 2016.
LeMoyne deeply loved his family and he was deeply loved in return. He will be missed immensely. We were very fortunate to have him in our lives.
Memorials may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church in care of Janice Asmus.
Arrangements under the direction of Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Portland, OR.
