

Lloyd Berlyn Schulz, age 85, of Portland, OR passed away, February 26, 2015. He was born in Chicago, IL on May 22, 1929. Lloyd graduated from Fenger High School in Lynnwood, IL in 1947 and received a Bachelors of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1951. He originally planned to study law then considered becoming a teacher. In 1953 he enlisted in the Air Force and served on active duty during the Korean War. In 1955, he converted to Reserve status and retired 30 years later at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Lloyd was married to Marylyn Bockus in December 1956. They started their married life in the San Jose, CA area and relocated to Portland, OR in 1973. They later divorced. When Lloyd returned from active duty, he began a career in the Insurance industry and worked for Aetna Insurance and for Midwest Mutual Insurance, where he became their regional sales manager. He retired from both companies. Lloyd was active in the Masonic Lodge and was recognized as a 50 year member in 2010. In addition, he was a member of the Beaverton Elks Lodge and participated with the Shriners as well. He was passionate about education, the military and staying active. He liked to golf, ballroom dance, travel, and loved to read. He was charismatic. He loved to socialize - loved a good tale and a great joke. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine and by his granddaughter Holly. He is survived by his sons James, married to Barbara and John, married to Tracy and by his grandchildren Chrissy Best, James Schulz, Paige Schulz, Matthew Schulz, Tabetha Schulz & Mitchell Schulz.. He has 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 15 at 3:30pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 12755 NW Dogwood St, Portland OR 97229. A military service will be scheduled later this spring at Willamette National Cemetery.
