

The only child, to the parents of James Harold "Doc" and Vera Mae White, in Portland Oregon. Lloyd was a lifelong resident of Oregon attending Timber and Klamath Falls schools and graduating from Milwaukie High School in 1959.
On June 6, 1959, Lloyd went to work for Southern Pacific Railroad as a locomotive Fireman. He was drafted into the United States Army on January 27, 1964. In April 1964 Lloyd was assigned to the First Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. In 1965 he was sent to Ben Cat, and Lai Khe, Vietnam and was honorably discharged in January of 1966. Lloyd returned home to continue working for Southern Pacific R. R., on April 6, 1987, he took a leave of absence from Southern Pacific R. R. and went to work for the Amtrak Passenger Corporation as an engineer. Lloyd retired in June 2002 with forty-three years of service.
In Lloyd's youth he enjoyed hunting and fishing with both parents until his father's passing in 1973. He then continued his other passions. In 1971, Lloyd's modified 1945 Willy's military Jeep was inducted into the Portland Roadster Show Hall of Fame. Lloyd restored classic vehicles, a 1960 Chevrolet Impala, 1960 Chevrolet El Camino, also various military Jeeps, trucks, halftracks and Jeep trailers. Lloyd enjoyed the hunt and history, going all over Europe to find his vehicles and the parts for them. He also took part in the 55* Anniversary of D-Day in 1999 with his 1942 military jeep. He owned one the largest collections of military jeeps in the Northwestern United States.
Lloyd was the founder and life member of the Military Vehicle Collectors Club of Oregon, (MVCCO) as well as a charter and life member of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association, (MVPA). Lloyd's contribution to the (MPVA) because of his vast knowledge, was as technical advisor. He also wrote 11 books about World War II manufactured Jeeps. Lloyd held the position of chairman for the (MVPA) Hall of Fame and is a past member of the Board of Directors as well as Editor of the D-5 MVPA Directory in 1985. He was the Associate Editor and had his own column called, Recon 503 for the magazine Army Motors. Lloyd has had two of his own vehicles inducted into the (MVPA) Hall of Fame. In 1999, his 1942 checkerboard yellow and black Military Jeep and in 2004 his 1942 gloss OD green Plymouth 4-dr sedan staff car was inducted. In 2002 Lloyd also received (MPVA)Roll of Honor award, and in 2015 the (MPVA) Pioneer Award.
Since 1951 Lloyd has been a lifelong New York Yankees fan, and an avid collector of baseball paraphernalia.
For many years he was a season ticket holder for the Portland Buckaroos Hockey Team.
