Marr was a great boss for a beginning college student in summer of 1960. I always enjoyed working with him at the dairy coop.  He was good to all the employees.

i am sorry for the loss. I am wondering if this is the father of Paul Staab, who I knew at Portland State, 1967 to 1971. If so, please have him contact me-I would like to speak with him. Marr was a good friend over the years of our acquaintance. We first met in 1963 when I was appointed nutritionist at Mayflower Farms where Marr was assistant mill superintendent.He was always helpful and a very polite person. He became mill superintendent and his knowledge of the feed mill was such that some of our competitors remarked on how well he kept our old mill operating. In our later years at Mayflower Marr and I were involved in the planning and design for a new feed mill. This mill was constructed after we were no longer employed there. Marr and I continued our friendship over the years since then, and I often visited him  numerous times in the care homes where he was living. We shared many memories of the good, and some not so good, times we experienced. While Marr and Harriett had no children, they loved their nieces and nephews very much. I will miss Marr and his friendly "Hi Vern" a great deal. My sincere condolences to his extended family.

Mar and Harriet were extended family to us. My mom, Jeanie, lived next door to them for 42 years until her passing in 2006.  I know as close as they all were and by how much they missed her, that like me, they never could quite believe she was gone. Mar knew how to fix everything! He helped my mom with all kinds of home repairs. I am glad that now the three of them are in heaven together having a glass of wine and a good laugh over the back fence.  Mar helped us so much with the house after my mom died and I will never forget how grateful he was for the meals we would drop by in appreciation.  My husband Ron learned much from him. In the far future when my son meets them in heaven, I know Harriet will have an ice cream bar or a piece of chocolate for Eric, as she always did when she saw him and called him her "grandson."  St. Therese Church already misses Mar trimming the roses.  They will never look as good as when he took care of them.  I could go on much longer, but suffice it to say that Mar's passing is truly the end of an era for 130th and Tillamook and the last of my connection to the old neighborhood.  I thank Mar and Harriet for their friendship, love and support of me and my mother. Neighbors and friends like them only come around once in a lifetime. I'm glad I made of point of telling them that a long time ago. Rest in peace, my friend.  Say hi to Mom and Harriet.

Uncle Mar there is just so much to tell how much you meant to me and our family. The many dinners family get togethers. The boating from 1957 to when I left for the Army in 1967. You teaching me the importance of cleaning the boat after every trip. With a little sponge and water. Which I do with my boat today.  Uncle Mar you and Aunt Harriet brought so much joy to be around. And one of your favorite saying." And So It is! " I Love you and will always talk good about my Uncle Mar. A Man who never had a negative conversion about another person.

The twinkle in your eyes, your sweet smile, the cries of "gott im himmel!!!" I will miss you so much, looking at you was so much like looking into my mothers eyes. Tell her hi and that I am doing well. I will miss you dearly but happy you are now at home in the arms of your love and surrounded by your family.

My godfather and friend for 68 years. Marr was kindness, devotion, loyalty. He lived life large; enjoyed nature & enriched my life. Sorrow felt at his passing but grateful for his gift of enduring love.

You will be greatly missed by me. I have been reflecting back when all of us Unrein's would come over to your house. You in the kitchen, cooking away. Then all the holidays that you would also help mom cook at our house. I remember your favorite apron was a dish towel wrapped around your waist, saying "stephy)" come here and taste this". A spoon in your hand and the other hand underneath not to spill on me. I reflect back on all the boating weekends at Rooster Rock. Me always stubbing my big toe and you always giving it a big whopping kiss. Every Christmas Eve with a few cocktails and salami and cheese plate before the big feast the next day. You were such an amazing man, your kindness, generosity, story telling and some shenanigans I hold dear to my heart.
John and I will be in Bend in August and as per our last conversation in January I will always remember that Bend has four seasons.  I will celebrate you when I get there! I love you Marr..

There is no easy way to say goodbye. You will always be a happy thought in my mind and I will never forget the fishing stories, hanging out in the van, eating ice cream on the patio, smoking salmon and catching up. LOVE YOU.
