Marcelle was born on May 10, 1931, in Salem, Oregon. In 1949, she married her beloved husband, John, and together they shared over 60 years of marriage. They made Portland their home for much of their life before Marcelle settled in Oregon City for the past two decades, where she cultivated her beautiful gardens.
A devoted mother, Marcelle cherished her role as a parent to her four children-two daughters and two sons. Her passion for gardening was a defining aspect of her life, a love inherited from her own mother and passed down to her daughters. Whether in winter or summer, Marcelle could often be found outdoors with her shovel and wellies, tirelessly tending to her plants. Her dedication extended beyond her own yard; she was an active member of the West Linn Garden Club, hosting garden tours and preparing for the club's plant sales. Her legacy lives on through the plants she shared with family and neighbors.
In addition to her gardening pursuits, Marcelle volunteered with The American Cancer Society and successfully ran a Bed & Breakfast business for many years. Her kindness, dedication, and vibrant spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Marcelle is survived by her daughters Colette Averill (Doug) and Michelle Haggard (Joe), as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John and sons John and William.
Marcelle's memory will forever bloom in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace.
