Marcia Godfrey was born in Hollywood, California to Harold Smith and Anna Kargel. She grew up in SE Portland, Oregon, where she attended Marshall High School, graduating in1964. She later attended Warner Pacific College where she graduated in 1980 with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Marcia was married in Portland, Oregon on 8/19/1966 to John Arthur Godfrey. They met during spring break while John was attending Linfield College and Marcia was in high school. After getting married, John was drafted into the army, and they travelled throughout the United States, eventually getting stationed in Butzbach, Germany. Marcia and John loved travelling together and took multiple trips all around Europe. While in Butzbach, Mark and Paul were born. After John finished his military service, they moved back to Portland where James was born. After a few years in Portland the family settled in Gladstone, Oregon.
Marcia used her degree in Early Childhood Education working with children in preschools, co-ops, and churches. Her favorite age groups were 3–4-year-olds. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, church puppet group volunteer, and held multiple leadership roles at church.
Marcia enjoyed traveling, watching movies, history, and reading. She also had multiple crafting hobbies, especially when done with children. Sewing was her most memorable hobby, but she had no fear of glue guns, glitter, and pom-poms! Marcia had an incredible memory for dates, movies, and the names of friends and family.
She was a caring, giving, and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Although she fought diabetes for years, she never let that stop her from putting others first. We miss her kindness, love, and sense of humor, but it is comforting to know she is now in Heaven with God, the angels, and all who have passed before her.
She is survived by her husband John Godfrey and three children: Mark, Paul, and James Godfrey. Grandchildren include Adam, Liz, John, Bernard, Anna, and Hope Godfrey. Great grandchildren include Melodie, Elliot, and William. Daughter-in-laws Lori and Jennifer Godfrey. Marcia is also survived by her siblings Allan Smith and Janet Payne.
A memorial will be held at New Hope Church, 10603 SE Henderson St., Portland, OR 97266 on December 5th at 2pm.
