Our beloved Mark was born on March 1, 1961 and passed away in the early morning of September 20, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Mark lived his whole life in Portland and was the fifth child of Corine and the Late Lewis Winchester Sr. In his early years, he attended Bethel AME Church, and in the children choir under the direction of Mrs. Heard.
Mark graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and went on to make a career in production work. Mark lived a quiet life. He loved working and did not want to miss a day, he continued working until his illness would not let him.
When Mark was not working, gardening was his passion. You could always ride by the house and see him outside in the yard. He wanted to continue even as his health began to change, but his health would not allow that. Another one of his passions was FOOD. He could eat...huge portions and would tell you if what you were giving him was a plate for a child. He wanted everyone to eat blueberries, grapes and watermelon and would let you know the benefits.
Mark truly cared for others, had a great sense of humor, was stubborn, smart and loved to talk. He loved going to the library, always reading and researching everything. He knew family history. You could ask him questions and he could give names and dates. Mark loved to sing along to old music, watch old movies specifically the movies with Pam Grier, and would always say “she looks good”.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Lewis Sr. and his brother Lewis Jr. and leaves to cherish his memory his mother Corine Winchester, brother Daryl Winchester (Lupe) and sisters Janise (Neicy) Winchester-Bradford (Aaron) and Mary Winchester. Mark also leaves a niece, Kijana Winchester (Antwon), and nephews, Mychal “Jamaal” Winchester Sr. (Sophair), Joshua Bradford all of Portland, Or. and Gabriel Bradford, Seattle, WA . Additionally his great nieces and nephew, Jazmine, J’Asha, Jaeda, Mychal J. Jr, Janessa Winchester, Aunts Norma Kennedy, Beaverton OR; Harriett Broaden, Maryland, and a host of other family and friends. We will all miss him so much!!
