Marlin graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1967; and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, he was sent to Vietnam, and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat. He was honorably discharged and remained a proud Marine for the rest of his life.
Marlin met Gemma Capito in 2007. The two immediately fell in love, and married soon after.
Marlin had many hobbies, but especially enjoyed drag racing. He was a car enthusiast, and even held his own collection for a time. He was a member of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), and was affiliated with Pro Nostalgia Drag Racing in the Northwest.
He was an avid Oregon Ducks fan.
Marlin passed away May 30, 2020, in his Newberg home, with his loving family at his side. Marlin will be interred in Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gemma; daughter, Heather; step-sons, Jonathan and Harris; siblings, Dan, Gordon, Ray, and Jon; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Colt. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Steve and Roger.
Marlin will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He was down-to-earth and could always be counted on to be honest.
