Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Mostert was born June 7, 1924 in Portland, Oregon to parents Claude R. and Ethel A. Martin. She was married to Donald R. Babb for 26 years and together they raised their three children, Ray, Juanita and Cathie. She married Howard Mostert in 1970 and they were married for 27 years. Howard passed away in 1997. Betty passed away November 12, 2015. Much of her young adult life was spent caring for elderly friends and family members. While her children were still at home she was involved in 4-H as a leader and encouraged many young people in the areas of cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Later on she worked as a seamstress at Dennis Uniform in Portland. A few years after she and Howard were married they moved up to the Wind River area above Carson, Washington. They enjoyed the out of doors and could often be found working in the woods near their A-Frame home. Later, after they moved down to the City of Carson, they had a prolific garden and spent many hours each year drying, cracking and shelling black walnuts and selling the nutmeats to community residents which in turn provided summer camp scholarships for children from the church and community. Betty loved her family and many friends, but most of all the Lord, and she felt compelled to share the Gospel with everyone she met. She prayed faithfully for her three children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren in addition to her many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 10am in the Community Room at Parkview Christian Retirement Community, 1825 NE 108th Avenue, Portland, OR 97220. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Carson Bible Church for camper scholarships. The address is PO Box 737, Carson, Washington 98610.
