Mathilda Shields

Mathilda "Tillie" Shields, passed away on March 6, 2012. Tillie was born on June 5, 1915 to William and Barbara Minden in Charleston Arkansas. Tillie moved to Portland in the early 1940's to help care for family. Tillie attended school and graduated from Sacared Heart in 1929. On Nov 18, 1950 Tillie married J. Gordon Shields in Portland, Oregon.

Tillie attended St. Therese Catholic Church and was very active in the Church. She lead a Bible Study group, served communion and several other positions in the church. Tillie's hobbies and interest were her garden, Joe said she has the "greenest thumb in the family" Tillie and Gordon were supporters of St. Vincent Depaul, The Serra Club and members of The Knights of Columbus.

Tillie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gordon, three brothers, Gus, Leo,and Ray; three sisters, Rose Mock, Margaret Hug and Edna Minden. She is survived by sons Joseph of Battle Ground Washington, Paul Shields of Oregon City Oregon, daughters, Patricia Shields of Austin Texas and Peggy Beltrone of Great Falls Montana, brother Francis of St. Louis Mo., 12 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren.
