Born October 3rd, 1914 in SE Portland, my mother moved as a little girl to Eugene. She shared many wonderful childhood memories on the farm as the older sister of Wendell Wyatt. In 1935, quite proud of her Alpha Gamma Delta sisterhood, she graduated from the University of Oregon. Four years later she married my father, John McCurdy, Sr., and in another four years, as my father was going off to war, I came along. Growing up, I remember my mother as resilient and hard-working. Shortly after their 37th wedding anniversary my father passed away. Mom kept herself busy for the next 30 years with her grandchildren, Keith, Karey, Kevin and Chris as well as with her many adventures abroad. Great-grandchildren Kyle, Cody, Camica, Erik and Makayla also gave her much to smile about. At 90 years old it was time to move out of her SE Portland house and with enthusiasm moved to Bridgewood Senior Living to be with her dear friend, Ester. At Bridgewood she befriended a very special man, Wayne, whom she obviously cared for and loved. Her years at Bridgewood were lively and happy, and as Wayne says "We had a lot of fun together."
As I was going through my mother's mementos, I found an exceptionally large Mother's Day card I hand wrote for her as a young boy; in the card that she kept for all these years I thanked her for being special.
Maxine passed away on August 4, 2011 in Vancouver, WA. She was 96 years old. She will be interred with her husband in Willamette National Cemetery.
"My mother will be missed dearly."
~John McCurdy
