He was a proud WWII vet. He earned medals including a purple heart. Merl was an accomplished bowler and had many trophies. He also did volunteer work for the Snowcap organization. He retired from Silver Eagle Trucking Co in 1986 after 36 years of service and was an honored member of the Million Mile Club, which is for driving a million plus miles without an accident.
He married Mildred Kaser Johnson in 1949.They had three children. Merl was predeceased by his wife, his parents Orrill and Thelma, sons Steven and Terrance and brothers Carrol and Wayne.
Survivors are his daughter Cheryl (Ron) Smalley, stepson Garry (Pat) Johnson, and sister Jean Bixler. He has also left behind five grandchildren, many great grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
There will be a military service at a later date.
