Ned was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 27th of 1930 to James Ira and Delphia Dughman Plowman. After graduating from Tech High School as a standout baseball player, he signed a contract with the New York Giants to play for their minor league team in the Texas – Oklahoma league. Returning home he took a job at the Omaha National Bank where he met co-worker Carole Ward. The two were married on January 23, 1951. Their first child, Judy, and their son Steven soon followed. To help make ends meet Ned continued to play baseball for a semi pro-league. During this time Ned also enlisted in the Army Reserve. In 1957 the family relocated to Portland Oregon where Ned landed a new job for Cummins Diesel. Their second daughter, Vicki, was born in 1960.
During his working career Ned became President and General Manager of DSU Peterbilt and GMC, one of the state’s largest privately held companies. He also served as president of the American Truck Dealers Association.
Retiring in 1996, Ned and Carole wintered in Mesa, Arizona and spent much time with their family. Avid supporters of the University of Oregon and longtime football ticket holders, fall meant spending weekends in Eugene for home games and many bowl game trips. He will be missed by all who knew him.
