Michael Todd Stanton was born on May 16, 1965, in Portland Oregon, to Patrick and Joyce Stanton. Mike grew up in Scappoose Oregon, attending grade, middle and high school, graduating in 1983. Shortly after graduation, Mike chose to join the Army. He attended basic training at Fort Dix, Fort Knox for advanced individual training, next transferring to Army Garrison in Stuttgart Germany before ending his career stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington in 1987.
Mike and Lisa met in high school then reconnected in 1987. They were married in 1989. Brianna was born in 1991 and Logan in 1994. Mike and Lisa lived in Portland, then Aloha before settling in Scappoose in 1993 – building their first family home. With both he and Lisa growing up in the Scappoose community, they wanted to be sure their children had that same experience. He was very involved in his children’s lives, never missing any sporting events. He was very proud of the adults they have become and the families they have created in 2019 with Logan marrying Jazzmin Ray and Brianna marrying John Nagel. He welcomed them both with open arms, bringing them into the family like they were his own. Along the way, Mike and Lisa added to their home two Corgi pups, Odin and Roxy.
Mike worked in various jobs before starting at the Post Office in 1988. He worked there until 2004, when he joined the maritime industry as a Longshoreman. He was very passionate about belonging to the Longshoreman brotherhood as a second generation. He held several union positions while working there including secretary, Vice President, and President of the Union several times. Michael truly loved his Union brothers and sisters, they became a second family.
In 2020, Mike’s whole world changed with the addition of his first two grandchildren, Trenton & Harlee, and then in 2022, two more grandbabies came, Raegan and Patrick. Having these four grandchildren became the new center of his whole world.
Mike enjoyed his time in the outdoors, growing up with dune buggies, quad riding, camping with family and friends, traditions he made sure to continue with his own family. Mike and the family also loved making trips Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Sea World, and the annual Reno trip. Mike was also a gun enthusiast, acquiring a vast collection as well as building his own. Mike loved going target shooting with family, especially his son and nephews. He also loved staying at the beach house in Ocean Park. In 2003, along with his Dad and Brother, Michael made the trip to Milwaukie, Wisconsin to celebrate the 100th year of Harley Davidson. He continued to enjoy riding his Harley to many other places and events, such as Street Vibes held in Reno, with friends.
Mike always had a story to tell with a smile from his eyes and mouth. Nobody was a stranger to him. If you made eye contact, you were a friend. He loved fiercely with everything that he was.
His passing leaves behind a huge hole in the world and he will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his brother Eric, his wife of almost 36 years, Lisa, daughter, Brianna, and son, Logan, Brianna’s husband, John, Logan’s wife, Jazzmin, and his four grandchildren, Trenton, Harlee, Raegan, and Patrick, along with his dogs, Odin and Roxy.
