

Nancy J. Doherty (née Vedovatti), aged 87, passed away on January 25, 2026, in Portland, Oregon. Born on July 18, 1938, in Butte, Montana, she lived a vibrant and full life marked by a deep dedication to her profession, love for her family, and a variety of interests that brought joy to her and those around her.
Nancy embarked on a significant career journey as a surgical RN after graduating from Nursing School. She devoted 45 years to caring for others at St James Hospital in Butte and Woodland Park Hospital in Portland, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and patients alike. Her commitment to her profession was paralleled by her involvement in her faith community at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where she was a longtime member.
Her personal life was rich with relationships and hobbies. Nancy is survived by her sister, Judy Vedovatti; and cousins, Barbara Pistoresi of Seattle and Edmondine Benski of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger E. Doherty, and her parents, Raymond and Helen Vedovatti. Nancy's zest for life was evident in her love for animals, particularly enjoying watching and feeding peanuts to the squirrels, hummingbirds and others in her backyard. She also loved her home state of Montana and the time she had there. A sharp dresser, she also had a keen eye for fashion, greatly enjoying shopping.
Nancy had a profound love for music, often found listening, dancing, or singing along to tunes played by her sister Judy. She and Roger were enthusiastic supporters of the Blazers and enjoyed attending games together. Her passion for sports extended to cheering for the Seahawks and enjoying baseball. An excellent cook, Nancy also cherished the opportunities to travel. Her laughter was contagious, and she had a special fondness for watching cowboy westerns, which always brought a smile to her face.
Nancy's life was a testament to her love for her community, her dedication to her faith, and the joy she found in everyday pleasures. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
