

Nevada was born February 26, 1916 to parents Charles and Clara Belle Montague in the hotel they owned located in Roosevelt, Washington.
They next lived in Caldwell Idaho, moving to Prairie City, Oregon when Nevada was 13. The youngest of three girls she was an adventurous child, saving her own money at just 14 to fly with a barnstormer.
She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1934 where she met Laurel M. Busby, the love of her life and went on to study at Oregon State University. Nevada and Laurel married in 1939. Their first home in Prairie City was a converted rail car. Laurel later built a cabin as their second home. It was also where their first child was born.
They moved to Portland in 1941 where three more children were born, and Nevada flourished in her role as doting mother and accomplished housewife. She continued to enjoy spending time with children throughout her life and was claimed as a surrogate mother and grandmother by many.
Over the years she volunteered in the schools through PTA, as a Campfire Girl’s leader and officer of the Lewis & Clark College Mother’s Club.
With an infectious zeal for life and accepting spirit Nevada had many friends on the mainland and in Hawaii. Spending the past 35+ winters on Kauai she loved to walk its beaches searching for shells, glass floats and other treasures.
An avid golfer, patient fisherman and formidable shuffleboard player, she lived an active life. She enjoyed gardening, crosswords, playing cards, watching car races, bird watching and collecting hippos.
With a lifetime span of 96 years, Nevada lived a remarkable life and will be greatly missed by family and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and love.
Nevada is preceded in death by her husband Laurel and sons Terry Busby and Russell Busby. She is survived by son David Busby, of Portland; daughter Kiki Dolson of Sisters; daughter-in-law Jay Busby of
Portland: 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
A graveside memorial service is planned for June 30, 1 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, 11801 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd, Portland.
