

Nick Lawpaugh, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 28, 2024, just days after celebrating his 73rd birthday. Born on August 25, 1951, in Portland, Oregon, Nick was the beloved son of Lloyd and Annie Lawpaugh. Raised in Portland, he graduated from Madison High School in 1969.
Following his high school graduation, Nick proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kansas City from 1972 to 1973. His service was a testament to his dedication and sense of duty. In 1984, he married Cathy McCusker, beginning a partnership that was as steadfast and loving as it was enduring.
In his younger years, Nick worked in construction, a field where his hard work and determination shone brightly. Upon retirement, he embraced his passion for classic cars, dedicating his time to restoring them and sharing his enthusiasm with fellow enthusiasts. His hobbies extended to golf, fishing, classic car shows, Keno, boating, and camping—activities that he enjoyed with friends and family. Nick was known for his great sense of humor and his philosophy that "We’re not here for a long time, we’re here for a good time." This outlook on life made him a joy to be around and a source of endless laughter and love.
Nick will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and his caring, protective nature. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy; his daughters, Katie (Joe) and Chea (Scott); his grandchildren, Lainey, Mitchell, and Scott Jr; and his great-grandson, Tuff. He is also survived by his brothers Steve, Ted (Marie), and Bob (Colleen), as well as his beloved nieces, nephews, and grand-dog, Koni.
Nick’s legacy of joy, humor, and deep affection for his loved ones will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
